Standing tall in the Neosho area for close to 100 years, a slippery elm is now certified as a state champion tree by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).Dean Ogden said he bought that piece of property to build a home because of that tree, but he had no idea it was one for the record book. Not until he called the MDC, who sent experts out to investigate.
