  • JOPLIN — New developments have been released dealing with Richard A. Bratt, 57, of rural Diamond, the bank robbery suspect in Thursday’s US Bank in Neosho.

    JOPLIN — New developments have been released dealing with Richard A. Bratt, 57, of rural Diamond, the bank robbery suspect in Thursday’s US Bank in Neosho.

    After being arrested, police linked him to other robberies in the area.

    According to a press release from Joplin Police Department, “Investigators with the Joplin Police Department went to Neosho and interviewed the suspect. Based on the suspect’s description, physical evidence obtained and the suspect’s statement, charges will be sought against the suspect in the following Joplin incidents:

    • The May 10, 2009 armed robbery at Hollywood Theater located at 201 N. North Park Lane, Joplin.

    • The May 23, 2009 armed robbery at Aldi’s Grocery Store located at 3205 E. 20th, Joplin.

    • The Sept. 10, 2009 armed robbery at Commerce Bank located at 2980 S. McClelland, Joplin.

    Bratt is charged with three counts in Newton County.

    According to Bill Dobbs, assistant prosecutor with the Newton County Prosecutor’s Office, in today’s edition, “(He is charged) with robbery in the first degree, which is a Class A felony, armed criminal action, which is an unclassified felony, and resisting arrest, which is Class D felony. The unclassified felony doesn’t carry  ‘A, B, C or D’ designation, but it is punishable by not less than five years.”

    A Class A felony is punishable up to, and including, life in prison, and a Class D felony carries up to a four year penalty. Bratt is currently in the Newton County Jail.
