  • On Monday, Newton County Sheriff’s Department found unattended dogs in “some sort of kennel.”
“We took 17 live dogs, four dead ones and one got away, for a total of 22 dogs,” said Chris Jennings, chief deputy for the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. “It was at 8496 Eloise Ln., Joplin. It had been some sort of kennel, the owner was a Gary Dotson, he had moved to Republic, Mo. and for whatever reason, these animals were not getting full care. They were in horrible conditions, little food and water.”
Jennings noted the Missouri Department of Agriculture was involved with the seize.
The seize took place around noon on Monday and Jennings stated it lasted several hours.
“We got Dotson to sign over temporary custody to us and we signed it over to Missouri Department of Agriculture and they took possession of the animals,” he said.
The chief deputy noted there was no idea on how long Dotson had not taken care of the dogs.
“We had received a call there awhile back and he had told us that he was moving the animals and would be gone in a few days,” Jennings said. “But checking back later, we find that they are not (moved).”
