  • City of Neosho announces several personnel cuts in light of budget issues

  • Harlan Moore, interim city manager for the City of Neosho, announced several personnel cuts to city staff that are effective immediately.
    These staff positions, according to a release from the city, are slated for long-term vacancy or elimination. Duties performed by each position will be absorbed by existing staff, the release states.
    "This task is painful, but I'm doing what I must to balance the current year budget and protect the city's ability to provide essential services," Moore stated in the press release. "We lost some great folks today."
    Greg Hickman, fire chief for the Neosho Fire Department since 2003 and who has been with the department for more than 37 years,  announced his retirement Wednesday. He will remain with the department through July 30. Mike Eads, deputy chief, will assume the fire chief duties as of July 31. The deputy chief position at the NFD will remain vacant.
    The positions affected are:
    • Administrative assistant in public works;
    • Records supervisor at the Neosho Police Department;
    • Events coordinator in general administration;
    • Training officer at the Neosho Fire Department;
    • Collector in the finance department;
    • Deputy Chief  at the Neosho Fire Department;
    • Deputy Chief at the Neosho Police Department;
    • Administrative assistant in general administration.
    • Wastewater line maintenance in the wastewater department.
