  • Tuesday's snow and Wednesday's predicted severe temperatures are prompting more closings around the area, including some Missouri and Oklahoma roads.
In Missouri I-44 is closed from Springfield to Oklahoma, where it is closed throughout the state, and travel officials are warning motorists to stay home. ODOT warns conditions could worsen overnight due to blowing snow. The Missouri Department of Transportation is running trucks but calls road conditions hazardous. MoDOT, saying the highway is impassible, has closed I-70 from Kansas City to St. Louis. It may remain closed overnight at least.
The Neosho Walmart store was evacuated late Tuesday afternoon as Walmart officials worry the flat roof - burdened with 14-18 inches of snow - could collapse.
States of emergency have been declared in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas and even the city of Joplin. The Kansas City International Airport closed at 4:03 p.m. Tuesday with no re-open time or date set. The effects of the blizzard have been felt as far away as Chicago where Chicago's Midway airport has been shut down and most flights out of O'Hare canceled.
