  • Last week, area school districts canceled school due to the inclement weather.
“We have eight days built into our calendar, six to add to the end and then two of those were the long weekend days, one in February and one in March,” Neosho R-5 Superintendent Dr. Richard Page said. “Right now, we are looking as if we are going up to Thursday, May 26. If we miss another day, then we will have to be working on that Friday (May 27). We have to use seven of those eight days right now because of the inclement weather rule on that. What that amounts to is that you have to make up the first six days of any of your days you miss. Then on the seventh day, you make it up, but you don’t have to make up the eighth. Then you have nine and 10 makes up a day. If we miss one more, that will be nine, then we will make that day up on Friday, May 27. Then we would not have to make up the 10th day if we miss two more days – which there is a good chance for that.”
The school district missed four days prior to last week and then again last week.
What we are going to try to do is avoid going past Memorial Day…right now, we are good to go,” he said.
As of press time Saturday afternoon, no decision had been made if school will be in session on Monday. Page said that decision will be made later today.
“We will be able to check the roads (today),” he added.
There are a number of ways the school district gets the word out including TV/radio announcements, the school district’s information line, 451-8611, visiting the website www.neosho.k12.mo.us, Twitter or by an all-call list called from the school district.
