Maxine Cullum, 78, Neosho, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Maxine was born Oct. 28, 1932, in Kansas City, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. She was an educator and had obtained a master’s degree in education from PSU and taught in the Neosho public school system, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she was very active, a member of the DAR; American Legion Auxillary; retired Teachers Association and had a passion for geneology.
Maxine married James Cullum on Oct. 28, 1952, in San Diego, Calif., and he survives.
She is also survived by two sons, James Cullum, Jr., Baxter Springs, Mo., and Frank Eugene Cullum, Neosho; her mother, Bonnie Jeffers, Neosho; a sister, Catherine Cruz, Neosho; three grandchildren, Seth Lee Cullum, Nathanial Cullum and Stephanie D. Cope and four great grandchildren, Victoria Cullum, Hunter Cullum, Andrea Davis and Julian Cope.
The body has been taken for cremation and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Al Gritten will officiate. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
