  • A new family clinic has opened in Neosho, at the former office of Dr. Ed Porter.
ACCESS Family Care, 412 E. McKinney St., officially opened its Neosho location on Monday, March 26, and began seeing patients  on Thursday, March 26.
“Our board of directors has wanted to have a full-fledged clinic in Neosho for several years, so when Dr. Porter’s former office became available, they jumped at the opportunity to fulfill that dream,” said ACCESS Family Care CEO Don McBride. “We are very excited.”
Dr. Jerry Jumper, who has served ACCESS patients at the Anderson clinic for five years, serves as the physician for the Neosho clinic. Jumper has more than 30 years in the medical field.
“We can see patients for anything primary care related,” McBride said.
“(Primary care)  is going to be things related to wellness, wellness checks, flu, sniffles, ‘I'm just not feeling good,’” he said. “We are big on chronic care, we help patients manage diabetes, cardiovascular disease, all of those types of things.”
ACCESS doesn’t have dental services at the Neosho clinic, however, dental services are provided at their Anderson, Cassville and Joplin clinics.
“We would be able to do (dental services), but right now it is just one step at a time,” McBride said. “(Opening the clinic) is a big step for us.”
Prior to the Neosho clinic coming in, McBride said some patients were being seen at the Anderson clinic.
“There are a lot of Neosho patients that go to our clinic down in Anderson, so the convenience is really good for them,” he said. “They are excited about that. We were looking for something close to downtown (Neosho). We felt like a lot of our patient-base was coming from around that core area of Neosho, and this clinic meets the bill. Patients can even walk to the clinic. It is close enough to that.”
On their first day of seeing patients, McBride said they had nine patients scheduled, but that number actually rose to 14. The clinic has three exam rooms.
“We want to keep our patients coming back on a regular basis, especially if they have chronic disease, so we can help them keep that monitored,” he added.
“One of the special characteristics of community health centers is that they work to increase wellness in the communities they serve. We are highly regulated, we monitor and report on patient health outcomes, and we meet high standards for excellent care.”
Last year, ACCESS exceeded chronic care measurement goals with its patients. 86 percent of diabetic patients and 81 percent of patients with cardiovascular disease were within goals.
“Missouri ranks as one of the nation’s unhealthiest states,” McBride said. “ACCESS is working hard and with patient cooperation, we’re making a difference and improving wellness in our communities. That’s our job.”
