The baseball season is heading towards the last month of the regular season. There have been a few surprises this year. The Washington Nationals currently have the best record in baseball after several seasons of disappointment. The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to have their first winning season since 1992 and are currently second in their division. The Boston Red Sox, who have a big payroll of players, appear to be well out of any chance to make the playoffs. The St. Louis Cardinals, who won the World Series in exciting fashion last year, are in third place in their division and seem to playing for a shot at the a wild card spot to make the playoffs.
Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves is retiring after this season. Chipper got a standing ovation at the All Star Game in Kansas City this year, which I thought was a nice tribute for a very good player who had not played in Kansas City before that game, because he has played his entire career with the Braves in the National League. He is currently leading the Braves in hitting at the age of 40. He looks like a sure thing to make it in to the Hall of Fame.
