Cory E. Sheppard, age 33, Neosho, passed away at 8:42 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 from injuries he sustained in an accident.
Cory was born March 24, 1979 in Joplin, Missouri to Ken Sheppard III and Jeanne Brock Sheppard and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.
He was a 1997 graduate of Neosho High School. Cory was a lover of art and was a passionate tattoo artist. He worked at Punkteur Tattoo Parlor for 12 years, and owned the business for seven of those years. He had recently started work at Electric Art in Joplin.
When the tornado struck Joplin in May of 2011, Cory and his fiancé, Andrea, joined countless others in an attempt to help those in need. He found himself across from the high school at Harmony Heights Baptist Church, where he pulled people from the debris and sat with those that needed medical help. His efforts will never be forgotten.
Cory is survived by his mother, Jeanne Patterson, Neosho; his fiancé, Andrea Clark, Neosho; his children, Lennon Sheppard, Neosho, Shirley Sheppard, Ruby Sheppard, Ian Sheppard, all of Jasper; two step children, Lily Clark and Jackson Clark, both of Neosho; his father, Ken Sheppard and his wife, Connie, Muncie, Indiana; two brothers, Jay Patterson and Austin Garrett, both of Neosho; two sisters, Courtney Sheppard and Lindsey Martin, both of Muncie, Ind.; step sister, Kaylee Landis, N.Y.; step brother, Kyle Winningham, Lubbock, Texas; aunts, Patricia Loveland, Neosho, Kathy Brock and her husband, Tim Ennis, Portland, Ore., Toni and Charlie Grenz, Dottie and Robert Elbert; cousins, Aaron Lembo, Colby Elbert; special cousin, Jake Loveland; maternal grandfather, Robert L. Brock, Neosho, paternal grandparents, Shirley and Hugh Fenner, Joplin; paternal step grandmother, Joan Scrivener; other extended family members and many, many friends.
Cory was preceded in death by his brother, Ian Garrett; maternal grandmother, Lillys ‘Mimi’ Brock; and paternal grandfather, Ken Sheppard, Jr.
There will be a celebration of life to honor Cory on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Kitchen Pass in Joplin. The family asks that you come and go as you please.
The family will receive friends at a memorial visitation on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheppard Children Trust, in care of Parker Mortuary.
