  • Robert Kalmbach, 88, Neosho, died Aug. 19, 2012 at his home, following a lengthy illness.
    Mr. Kalmbach was born April 3, 1924 in Norma, N.D., and moved to Neosho in 1968 from Michigan.
    He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in Italy, France and Germany as a forward observer, earning four bronze stars and other medals and then served in the U.S. Air Force as a military escort for returning the remains of World War II military personnel. Robert owned and operated a residential construction company, was an avid pinochle player and enjoyed RV-ing. He married Rose Niezoda on March 5, 1951 in Detroit, Mich., and she survives.
    Additional survivors include five children, Chris Kalmbach and wife, Christi, Neosho, Dale Kalmbach, Gainesville, Fla., Mark Kalmbach and wife, Tonja, Neosho, Vicki Cook and husband, Terry, Neosho and Tracie Duncan, Neosho; a daughter-in-law, Debra Kalmbach, Neosho; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Bud Kalmbach, Minot, N.D.; three sisters, Lavonne Emerson, Austin, Texas; Shirley Shipman, Minot, N.D. and Carolyn Swanson, Tolley, N.D.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Don Kalmbach; a grandson, Nathan Thompson; and five brothers and sisters.
    The body has been taken for cremation and memorial visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
