Jimmy Leon Phelan, Neosho, died Aug. 28, 2012, at his residence, following a long-term illness.
He was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Joplin, to Willie Richard and Bernice Louise (Thurman) Phelan.
Jimmy was a lifelong resident of the Neosho area and worked as a truck driver for Ozark Wood Products for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marionville, Mo. and loved to raise tomatoes and eat fried green tomatoes. His family is proud to say, “he was the best Papaw, Dad, and husband in the world.”
Jimmy Leon Phelan married Gayle Bohannan on Aug. 10, 1973, in Neosho and she survives. He is also survived by two children; Brandon Joe Phelan, Chandler, Ariz.; Shelly Marie Cooper, Rogers, Ark.; three brothers; Billy Joe Phelan, Neosho; Gary Phelan, Neosho; Kenneth Phelan, Granby; two sisters; Hattie Reed, Granby; Cindy Watson, Granby; nine grandchildren; Marlie “Number one Punkin”; “Allie Oops”; Alex “Rug Rat”; Christopher, Alicia, Devon, Tyler, Abby, Christian; and one great-granddaughter; Jaylie “Dr. J.”
Friends may call from 6-7 p.m., Friday, August 31, Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. The family will conduct a graveside service 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, at Gibson Cemetery, Neosho, Rev. Lee Miller officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
