  • Solid defense helped Neosho slip past Republic 1-0 in Central Ozark Conference Large Division soccer on Thursday.
The Wildcats (5-5, 1-2 conference) got ahead in the first half when Angel Garcia scooted a pass to Dustin Hill, who punched the ball into the back of the net 13 minutes into the contest.
Neosho’s defense reigned supreme, and the Tigers, who played solid defense themselves, couldn’t mount an offensive threat.
Paul Sanders pitched the shutout for the Wildcats — recording four saves as goalkeeper. The Wildcats, who fired eight shots on goal, held the Tigers to four shots.
Neosho also won the junior varsity match, 3-1. Juan Consique and Alijandro Ramirez scored first half goals, and Marc Lavarar scored in the second half for the Wildcats. Ramirez, Draye Hill and Sean Drewry each collected an assist.
Brandon Coyle and Logan Merrall each had a save for the junior varsity. Neosho out-shot Republic, 5-3.
