  • GRANBY — East Newton continues to be bitten by the big inning.
    After Neosho scored seven runs against them in the second inning on Tuesday, the Lady Patriots allowed Monett to plate seven in the third inning and fell 14-2 in five innings on senior night.
    Errors continued to be the main culprit in the loss as the Lady Patriots committed seven errors in the game. Two East Newton errors around four hits that allowed Monett to bat around in the third inning. 
    Allie Krueger started on the mound for the Lady Cubs in a rehab outing and whirled two innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Raigan Ratliff pitched the final three and scattered five hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
    Taylor Mathis started for the Lady Patriots and struck out three with a walk. Mathis also collected a hit at the plate.
    Both East Newton runs came in the third inning. Mallory Whitman singled and Laney Hayward doubled in the gap to right field to drive Whitman in. Mathis grounded out to advance Hayward to third and she scored on an Ellie White groundout.
    Hayward led the Lady Patriots with two hits. Mathis, Morgan Anderson and Whitman had a hit apiece.
    Kelsey Wiseman led Monett with three hits and four RBI. Jessica Harper had two hits and two RBI. Josee Krueger had three hits. Allie Krueger had two singles and an RBI. Andrea Soriano had two hits. Brooke Burnside tripled in the game.
    East Newton recognized a pair of seniors, Anderson and Kenzie Riegle at the game.
