GRANBY — East Newton jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first set and used that momentum to easily handle Lamar in straight sets 25-13, 25-4 on Thursday at East Newton High School.
The Lady Patriots wasted no time in pouncing on their Big 8 Conference foe. They took a 6-1 lead before the Lady Tigers knew what hit them.
Lindey Broyles was the leader in kills with 10, Whitney Thomlinson turned in 17 assists, Shelbey Thomlinson had 13 digs, and Kortney Cambers had three aces.
Katelyn Luce’s three kills and four digs led the Lady Tigers. Haley Landrum finished with three aces.
East Newton improved to 9-4-1 overall and is now 1-0 in the Big 8.
The junior varsity Patriots won in three sets 16-25, 25-6, 25-15.
Monday’s game against Pierce City, originally scheduled to be played at East Newton, has now been moved to Pierce City. Game time is 6 p.m.
