Virginia Ellen Smith, 83, Stark City, died Sept. 30, 2012 at her home, following a lengthy illness.
Virginia was born Jan. 15, 1929 in Newton County, one of 12 children born to Charles L. and Rosella (Dowdy) Carter and was the last surviving child. She was a lifelong area resident, a homemaker and enjoyed embroidery work, flowers and fishing and was of the Baptist faith.
She married Charles Lee Smith and he preceded her in death.
Virginia is survived by three children, Wanda Turner and husband, Don, Stark City, Katherine Vicory, San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Nathan Smith, Joplin; five grandchildren, Evelyn Gilstrap, Seneca, Levi Wade, Stark City, Opal Vicory, San Luis Obispo, Tricia Smeda, Nipoma, Calif., and Nicole Stringer, Stark City; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by an infant son; and daughter, Anna Marie.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Gibson Cemetery, Jim Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. prior to the graveside service at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby.
Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby from noon until 5 p.m. today.
