Grover Cleveland “Cleve” Franks Jr., 88, Airport Drive Village, passed from this life to the next at his home at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.
Born Sept. 7, 1924 in Picher, Okla., he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Franks, Sr. and Bessie Marie Price Franks. A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Land Line Service. He also served as Pastor for multiple Christian Churches in Joplin and surrounding areas.
He and his wife participated in Airstream Rallies and Clubs, traveling extensively in North America after his retirement.
On Aug. 29, 1943 he married Betty Lu Wright at the Franks family home in Granby. Together they enjoyed 69 years of marriage and she survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Rick Franks and wife Jill of Jasper, Mo.; two daughters, Pam McCormick and husband Bruce, Luann Benefiel and husband Jason, all of Loveland, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Janet Judd and husband Brian, Karen Weston and husband Jared, Adam DeGraff and wife Genevieve, Matthew DeGraff and wife Monica, Jeremy DeGraff, Layla and Ivy Benefiel, Kevin McCormick, Sarah Fisher and husband Bill; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Everett and Fred Franks; one sister, Mildred Burge; and a nephew, Evert Gene Franks.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Parker Chapel with Ken Ansley officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m.
Friday at Granby Memorial Cemetery with nephew, Dennis Burge, officiating. Family serving as pallbearers will be Brian and Janet Judd, Jared and Karen Weston, Adam, Matthew and Jeremy DeGraff.
Memorial contributions may be made to H.E.L.P. International, in care of the mortuary.
