BOLIVAR — Southwest Baptist University goalie Gavin Bryant pitched his first shutout of the season as the Bearcats blanked Crowder 3-0 on Tuesday.
A defensive battle ensued in the first half and the score remained nil until the Bearcats took advantage of a Roughriders mistake in front of the net. On the play Kaleb Romero stole the ball and found the back of the net to make it 1-0 at the 42 minute mark.
The Bearcats came out in the second half and added two more goals. It became 2-0 when Bradley Stillwagon headed a corner kick from Karl DuPont into the net 63 minutes into the contest. Scott Zingerman then took a pass from Seth Kohlstaedt and ran the length of the field in a one-on-one battle against a Roughriders defender before beating keeper Ludin Gonzales to cap the scoring at the 85-minute mark.
Gonzales saved six shots as the Bearcats fired 11 shots on goal.
The Roughriders had four shots and Bryant saved them all.
Crowder (7-4-1) travels to Hillsboro, Mo., to take on Jefferson College at 2 p.m. Saturday.
