The city of Fairview is still waiting for a National Guard project to help out the city's infrastructure.
"I am still waiting to hear back from them and see what our next steps are," said Sid Oliver, mayor of Fairview.
Oliver said the Guard will assist the city on streets and water drainage, gutters, culverts and other items to aid drainage in the town. The National Guard provides the manpower and equipment, but the city provides the fuel and any material that needs to be brought in.
The council heard the update during Tuesday's city council meeting at the Fairview City Hall.
In other news, the council announced that it has hired a new police chief, Robert Jacobus. Jacobus was hired during the closed session of the council during its September meeting.
"To enforce our laws here, keep everybody on the straight and narrow," he said of his job duties.
The next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 13, at city hall.
