Dena Slaughter, 68, Neosho, died Oct. 23, 2012 at her home in Neosho, surrounded by her loving family, following an illness.
Dena was born Jan. 24, 1944, in McDonald County, Mo., the daughter of J.R. and Connie (Miller) Hobbs. She was a lifelong area resident and had worked as a receptionist at Sears, had worked at Sunbeam and retired from the Hunte Corp. in August 2011. Dena was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, was saved and baptized at a young age and was a devout Christian.
She married Donald Slaughter on Sept. 21, 1970, and he survives.
Additional survivors include five children, Sherry Denny and husband, Gary, Goodman; Vernon Cummings and wife, Darla, Anderson; Darren Slaughter and wife, Lisa, Neosho; Mark Slaughter, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Adam Slaughter, Minnesota; two sisters, Nancy Roberts, Neosho and Patti Hobbs, Springfield; daughter in law, Toni Cummings; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Dwayne Jay Cummings and Charles Eugene Cummings and a sister, Sue Kirk.
Services will be Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Buddy Funk will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Darren Slaughter, Jerrid Cummings, Dillon Cummings, Justin Thacker, Colton Cummings and Todd Lehar. Honorary pallbearers will be Coty Pringle, Johnny Arnett, Gary Denny, Adam Slaughter and Mark Slaughter.
Friends may call at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, where the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.
