Gerold R. Dodson, 74, Mustang, Okla., died Oct. 27, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Okla., following a lengthy illness.
Gerold was born Dec. 28, 1937 in Alba, the son of Jesse R. Dodson, Sr. and Coralyn M. (Roath) Dodson. The family moved to Joplin in 1951, where he attended Joplin Senior High School, graduating in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force from Oct. 17, 1955 through Nov. 30, 1976, during the Vietnam War and received the Air Medal and the Air Force Commendation medal with three Oakleaf clusters. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 2 1/2 years, then the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in May 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Ronnie Jean (Thornton) Dodson of the home; one son, Jeffrey R. Dodson, Rosamond, Calif.; three daughters, Catherine L. Dodson, Cynthia L. Dodson and Christine L. Dodson, all of Sacramento, Calif.; one brother, Jack E. Dodson, of the state of Oregon; three sisters, Mary Lou Reeves, Joplin, Edith Tate and Shirley Dodson, both of Neosho; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, M. E. Dodson, Jesse R. Dodson, Jr. and Warren G. Dodson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow in the Belfast Cemetery, northwest of Neosho.
