As a way to say thanks and honor veterans, the Neosho American Legion Post 163 and the American Legion Auxiliary will host a Veteran’s Day dinner at the Civic.
The event will take place from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Veterans eat free and non-veteran adults are $5, children ages 5-12 $3, ages 5 and under are free.
This is an annual event.
Explaining the main purpose of the event is Ellen Arnce, president of the auxiliary.
“It is actually two-fold,” she said. “Probably the most primary is so the veterans can be honored, they get to eat free. But it is also a fundraiser for the American Legion. The American legion uses the money for veterans. The auxiliary is just doing the food to help the legion.”
Arnce noted that Family Market is cooking the meat, which the legion is paying for, but they are donating the mashed potatoes and the gravy. And then the auxiliary essentially is providing the rest of the food.
The menu includes ham, turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, and dessert, coffee, tea and water.
Veterans and their families and friends do not have to RSVP, just show up. It is a come and go event.
