Four Crowder Roughrider soccer players were named to the 2012 All-Region 16 team.
The four players, all staples of a Roughriders team that finished 8-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the region, honored are Facinet Camara (first-team), along with second-teamers Ousman Ba, Shadrick Kaphuka and Ali Lema.
Camara, a freshman midfielder/forward from Alexandria, Va., proved to be a dominant threat for the Roughriders, scoring 11 goals in 13 games for the team this season. Ba, a freshman defender from Silver Springs, Md., scored a pair of goals in his first campaign with the club this season.
Kaphuka, a sophomore midfielder/defender and native of Mawi, South Africa, scored six goals. Lema, a sophomore midfielder from Alexandria, Va., was one of the key cogs on the defensive side of the ball for the Roughriders.
“These four players were the foundation of our team this year,” Crowder coach Brad Smith said. “They worked extremely hard and are deserving of any awards they may receive. I will miss the two sophomores next year and am excited to have both freshmen back for another year.”
