  • After stellar seasons on the softball field in which they helped lead their McDonald County Lady Mustangs to the district championship game, Sarah Rickman and Courtni Smith have been named as selections for the prestigious Missouri All-State team.
Rickman, a senior, had a big season at both the plate and on the mound where she was a catalyst to their success in both categories. At the dish Rickman hit .388 with 10 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 23 RBI. On the mound the right-hander went 11-2 with one save and a 1.32 ERA in 79 innings.
Meanwhile the junior Smith was a force with the bat while also providing fantastic defense. With the bat Smith tallied a .489 batting average with 10 doubles, four triples, three homers and 22 RBI.
Said Lady Mustangs coach Tray Shaddox, “Sarah and Courtni are both outstanding softball players, but to me, more importantly, they are tremendous young ladies. It is a pleasure to go out and be around them every day. The better part is that we have a whole team of young ladies that are just like them.
“They work so hard every day to get better and inspire each other to make our softball program one of the best in the area. We are going to miss Sarah next year and I wish her the best in whatever she chooses to do. As for Courtni, I look forward to having her back to lead our team to have an even better season than we did this year. We return seven starters form a team that was so close to winning a district championship, and I believe we are going to get there next year.”
