  • Several hurt in area crashes

  • A Baxter Springs, Kan. resident was injured following a Saturday morning crash in Newton County.
    Brett W. Murphy, 26, was traveling northbound on State Line Road three miles south of Joplin, when the 2004 GMC Yukon he was driving lost control, skidded off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.
    Murphy was taken by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital of Joplin with minor injuries.
    Murphy was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, the patrol report noted.

    A Friday night crash in McDonald County sent one woman to the hospital with minor injuries.
    Deanna L. Miranda, 34, of Anderson, was driving a 2012 Acura SUV westbound on Route F, four miles west of Anderson, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the roadway, vaulted and then struck the ground and overturned.
    Miranda was taken to Northwest Arkansas Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark.
    Miranda was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, the patrol report noted.

    Two Neosho residents were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening south of Joplin.
    Sidney E. Allen, 43, and passenger, Katy Napier, 17, were traveling southbound on Business 71 Highway, four miles south of Joplin, when their 1994 Chevrolet Corsica collided with a 2006 Ford Escape, driven by Kelly L. Wood, 18 of Joplin.
    The accident occurred when Wood attempted to make a left hand turn into the path of Allen and Napier.
    Napier received moderate injuries, while Allen received minor injuries. Both were taken by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
    Wood was uninjured in the crash.
    All three individuals were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, the patrol report noted.
