  • With smiles on their faces, 858 guests were served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, along with entertainment, music and a chance to win door prizes during the annual Neosho R-5 Senior Citizens Banquet, Friday at the Neosho Middle School.
The event started at 10:30 a.m., with the high school orchestra playing at the middle school patio. The free event lasted until 1 p.m.
The Daily News caught up with two senior citizens who attended the event – Naomi Paul and Tommy Blair. Paul was with her husband, George, while Blair was with his wife, Karen, and their daughter, Dana.
NDN: How many years have you been coming to this event?
    Paul: Nine years.
Blair: I have been coming here all 13 years.
NDN: Why do you come here for this event?
Blair: Well two reasons, one to support the school and second, our grandson, Colby Blair (who was one of the students who helped out) is the student body president.
Paul: To associate with people our age.
NDN: What do you think about the school district doing this today to thank the senior citizens of the district?
Blair: I think that it is a great opportunity for the camaraderie and also for the fact that it shows the support of the school programming and the whole concept of being behind our school district.
Paul: I think that it is really greatest thing that I have ever seen.
NDN: do you have a particular part that you enjoy seeing at this banquet?
Blair: I always enjoy the music and seeing the kids.
    Paul: The band is great.
NDN: In the past, have you won any door prizes?
Paul: Yes, I won a book and the book was about Hale McGinty. My husband was in the service and he got a coffee pot one year. We really love it, we still use it.
NDN: How is the food so far?
Blair: Well what we have had all of the food within the years past has been excellent.
NDN: Anything else that you would like to add about this event?
Paul: We love to come out here.
