  • The 58th annual Neosho Holiday Classic is set to tip next month as teams from across the country will converge on Neosho for games that run through Wednesday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 29 at Neosho High School and Neosho Middle School.
Due to the tournament field on both the girls and boys side having yet to be finalized, the names of the committed teams will not be released to the public at this time. If the history of the tournament has any bearing on what fans should expect, this should be another exciting tournament, however, as there again figures to be a mix of local, regional and national teams this season.
Last season, two of the top recruits in the country — University of Kentucky commits Andrew and Aaron Harrison — participated in the Classic. Throughout the years the event has hosted many top Division-I athletes and professionals such as NBA standouts Alec Burks, Hasheem Thabeet and Jeremy Tyler, WNBA star Shekinna Stricklen and NFL players Josh Freeman and Zack Pianalto.
Fans wishing to get a sneak peek on the committed tournament teams as they are released can do so by following the Neosho Classic on both Facebook and Twitter, or by visiting www.neoshoholidayclassic.com for more information with teams being released starting Dec. 1. Brackets will be posted on the website shortly before the start of the tournament while game results will also be posted on the website and Twitter.
A session pass for the event, which runs in an a.m. or p.m. session, costs $5. All-day passes for the event are $8 while all-tournament pass, good for all games throughout the tournament, are $20 apiece.
Slam-dunk and 3-point contests, always a fan favorite event, will be held the night of Friday, Dec. 28.
La-Z-Boy will be donating furniture for fans in a VIP seating contest. The winners of the contest, who will be seated in the furniture, will enjoy free drinks and snacks while watching the championship games courtside.
