  • The Diamond boys basketball team got the season started on the right foot as they hammered Exeter 58-21 in the opener of the Pierce City Tournament on Monday.
It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to flex their muscle. They opened the game on an 18-4 run in the first quarter and continued that with an 18-3 stretch in the second quarter.
It was a fine start to the season for a Diamond team that has high expectations for the season.
“I think when we pushed the tempo and pressed it really gave them trouble,” Wildcats coach Brandon Rabel said. “I felt like we got in a rhythm when we pressed. It was the typical first game, we had more turnovers than we wanted, but it was a good effort by our team.”
Logan Myers led the offense for the Wildcats with a game-high 20 points. Brodie Bien followed with 15 points, Ryan Jinks added 12, Darren Russow five, Trent Hayes five and Tanner Paradeis finished with one. Bien nailed three 3-pointer’s while Jinks and Johnson both had one.
Austin Johnson led Exeter with nine points.
The Wildcats have a tough showdown lurking on Thursday as they’ll face Thomas Jefferson at 6 p.m. at the Pierce City Tournament.
