Hillcrest opened the game on a big run and never looked back as the Hornets pulled away with a 65-29 victory over the Neosho boys in the season opener at the Republic Tournament on Monday.
The Hornets came out of the gate like a team in midseason form as they rattled off a 26-6 run in the first quarter. The Wildcats gathered themselves and played much better for the duration of the contest, but the damage had already been done.
Austin Petry led the Hornets with 15 points while Roy Hardy added 13 and Darnell Green-Beckham pitched in 10. Brady Petry finished with nine points while Thomas Whittaker chipped in seven, Juwan Johnson four and David McIntosh and Micah Liming had two apiece.
Darrian Guillory led the Wildcats offense with 13 points while Lucas Werneke chipped in seven, Kaden Roy, Chris Paullus, Cole Bishop and Andy Lett had two apiece, and Brett Williams added one.
The Wildcats will take on Rogers (Ark.) at 6 p.m. Thursday the Republic Tournament.
