  • Those interested in seeking a seat on the Neosho City Council may file for office in less than two weeks.
Filing for the April 2 election opens at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 and runs through Tuesday, Jan. 15.

There are two, three-year terms up for grabs on the Neosho City Council, seats currently held by Tom Workman and Steve Hart.
Workman was elected to a three-year term in 2010, while Hart was appointed to the council in April 2011 to fill the unexpired term of Heather Bowers, who was removed from the council two years into her term.
In April 2012, Hart was elected to a one-year term, left from the unexpired term of former councilman Chris Wright, who was elected in 2010 but resigned in January 2011 after accepting a job that took him out of town for extended periods of time. Council members at the time appointed David Ruth to fill the seat until the April 2012 election. In that election, Ruth ran for the three-year seat formerly held by Bowers and Hart, while Hart sought the one-year term left on the seat previously filled by Wright and Ruth.
To file for city council, candidates must live within the city limits, be a registered voter and be at least 21 years of age at the time of the filing. A minimum of 35 signatures from registered Neosho voters is required prior to certification as a candidate.
Interested persons should visit the Neosho City Hall, 203 E. Main St. to pick up a petition for nomination of candidate for city council. Those are available in the office of the city clerk.
