It was a tale of two halves for the East Newton Patriots on Tuesday.
After leading 19-18 at the half, the Patriots watched Pierce City get hot from the floor as the Eagles pulled away in the second half to a 45-36 victory in the season opener at the Pierce City Tournament.
Cedric O’Hara played the menace in the game as he hit a pair of clutch 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the Eagles pull away. Pierce City outscored East Newton 20-13 in the frame thanks to a well-executed press that slowed East Newton’s rhythm.
O’Hara led the Eagles with 15 points while Fitchpatrick finished with 14.
Bryce Zimmerman led the Patriots, and all scorers, with 16 points while Sam Swartz added seven, Aaron Millett two, Rocky Liveoak two, Zack Denmon four, Payton Cook three and Colby Thomas two.
The Patriots continue play at the Pierce City Tournament with a 7:30 p.m. tilt against Verona on Friday.
