  • After hanging close for the majority of the first half, the Neosho boys basketball team couldn’t keep up with Rogers (Ark.) through the final two quarters and fell, 62-26, Thursday at the Republic Tournament.
The Wildcats (0-2) remained within 12 points with just over two minutes to go in the first half before Rogers began to pull away. The tail of the tape came in the second and third quarters, where Rogers outscored Neosho, 40-13.
Zach Jones, a 6-foot-4 senior, threw his weight around to the tune of 21 points while manning the paint for Rogers. His effort inside the paint eventually led to open looks for teammates Keifer Holt and Hunter Hill on the outside as each drained three 3-pointers in the game. Holt finished with 13 points while Hill had 11.
Darrian Guillory scored nine points to lead Neosho’s scorers while Chris Paullus chipped in five, Cadin Hendrix four, Cole Bishop three, Andy Lett and Lucas Werneke two apiece and Logan Stewart one.
Neosho takes on Lebanon at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Republic Tournament.
