Harriet ‘Hattie’ McMurtrey-Neil-Kearney, 98, Stella, died November 23, 2012 at her home, following a short illness.
Hattie was born Feb. 14, 1914 in Stark City, the daughter of John L. and Myrtle Jane (Moore) McMurtrey. She married J. C. Neil on December 25, 1932 and moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1944.
While in California, she worked as an executive secretary at McDonnell Douglas and returned to Stella in 1974. She was a member of the Stella United Methodist Church. J.C. preceded her in death in 1961 and she married Harry Lavon Kearney in 1968 and he preceded her in death in 1998. Hattie is survived by a son, Joe Charles Neil and wife, Margaret of Medford, Ore.; five granddaughters, Jody Maddox, Shana Creager, Jayme Neil, Elizabeth Neil-Caracciolo and Amanda DeCoste; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Carson McMurtrey of Bakersfield, Calif.; son-in-law; Don McGinnis; and great niece, Kristin Nelson.
In addition to her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Neil Clark in 2004; three brothers, Bill, Gene and John McMurtrey and three sisters, Bessie Cullers, Percy McMurtrey Happy and Leta Cullers.
Services will be Wed., Dec. 5, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Stella United Methodist Church, Rev. Pam Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Newtonia IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Monday from noon until 5 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
