  • The City of Neosho will hold their annual Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in Big Spring Park.
This will also be the final year the 40-foot Norway Spruce, located in the middle of the park, will be the center of the holiday tradition.
The tree was damaged by the summer drought, and the city plans to replace it.
The event will include Christmas carols, performed by the second and third grade choir from South Elementary School. Richard Davidson, Neosho Mayor, will also read “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
Jeff and Debbie Werneke, recently recognized as the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year, will follow in the tradition of flipping on the tree’s lights.
Boy Scout Troop 34 will be on hand selling hot chocolate and Clifford the Big Red Dog will be handing out children’s books, on behalf of Scholastic Books.
Willie the Wildcat, Neosho’s school mascot, will also be in attendance and passing out candy canes to children.
The City of Neosho is also teasing a possible addition to this year’s ceremony, though what that may be has not been announced.
