Crosslines Ministry of Neosho is gearing up for their annual Gifts for Kids event, which will be held Monday, Dec 17-Dec. 21, at Crosslines Distribution Center, 308 E. Spring St., Neosho.
“The purpose of this event is to help families who are struggling to be able to have a little extra for their children for Christmas,” said Renee Gillett, executive director of Crosslines. “For some of our families, it may be the only gifts they can have for their children.”
Crosslines is asking for the community’s support with either donating new toys or monetary donations for the purchase of toys.
“We try and supply items for age brackets beginning with infant to 18 years of age,” she said. “This event is open to families in Newton County. This is the one event we do not have families pre-register for. It is on a first come, first serve basis. We require proof of Newton County residency and each child’s social security number.”
During the event, Gillett said, “Our goal at this event is for parents to receive, for each child in their family, their choice of a stuffed animal or book, age appropriate stocking stuffers, and one large gift of their choice. Parents, grandparents, etc. are eligible to choose as long as they have the required information.”
And there is significant need.
“In 2011, the need was great,” she said. “We supplied presents for 400 children. This is one of Crosslines’ biggest annual events and with the help of individuals and organizations within our community we believe we can once again help provide many smiles on Christmas morning.”
Toy donations can be dropped off at the Crosslines Distribution Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday and monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 123 Neosho. Make checks out to Neosho Crosslines Ministry and designate “Gifts for Kids” on the memo line.
