After being within a second from victory, the McDonald County Mustangs found themselves on the losing end of a late comeback by the host Monett Cubs on Friday.
Leading 42-39, a the Cubs hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the game at the buzzer to tied it and then went on to outscore the Mustangs 8-2 in the overtime period to earn the victory.
It was a bitter loss for the Mustangs, who battled back after a tough start and took the lead late, only to watch the Cubs come storming back.
Drey Fickle paced the Mustangs’ offense with 16 points while Josh Serr pitched in 10, Tyler Sherwood eight, Pablo Alvarez six, Josh Wood four and Tyrell Lett two.
Kyle Woods led the Cubs with 23 points.
