Neosho senior Morgan Rathmann had quite a night for the Lady Wildcats basketball team on Monday as she scored 19 points en route to a 48-15 thumping of Monett.
After falling hard to end the Freeman Lady Eagles Classic in Joplin on Saturday, the Lady Wildcats bounced back with a much-needed victory against the Lady Cubs. Rathmann took control of the game and helped steer Monett into the loss column for the fifth time this season. Her offensive minded approach pleased Neosho coach Lance Robbins afterwards.
“I was very pleased with how hard we played,” Robbins said. “We had good effort and good intensity from everyone. We had some kids that stepped up. Morgan Rathmann had a great game for us. She was very offensive minded, and we need her to do that more often.”
Corea Lowery followed Rathmann with eight points while Brooke Stauffer tossed in seven, Whitney Wise four, Morgan Rogers and Matty Liedtke three and Chelsey Henry two.
Neosho’s defense also was lights out, forcing the Lady Cubs to turn the ball over 35 times in the contest.
Cheryl Barnes and Brooke McLean each scored six for the Lady Cubs while Jessica Harper pitched in three and Haylee Morris two.
Neosho took a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and closed the first half with a 29-8 advantage.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 3-2 overall. They’ll entertain Seneca at 6 p.m. tonight with the varsity boys game immediately following.
Neosho also won the junior varsity game on Monday, 32-24.
