Granby’s chief of police is stepping down later this month.
R. Scott Whitman announced he will be retiring from law enforcement on Dec. 28. Whitman has served twice as Granby’s chief of police and was also a detective with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department.
“We are honored that he has chosen this department to finish out his 20-plus year career,” a department press release stated. “Chief Whitman has been an exceptional boss, mentor and friend to his officers under him.”
The press release — which was posted on both the Granby Police and Whitman’s personal Facebook pages — stated Whitman will “be starting a new adventure in his life” in January. More details on this will be posted in the near future, the press release stated.
