  • Since 1970, readers of the Neosho Daily News have been helping the less fortunate through the paper’s Share Your Christmas program.
This year, in conjunction with Renee Gillette at Crosslines, we have selected two families. Here are their stories.
FAMILY NO. 1: This widow is raising her teenage grandson on her own while on a fixed income. She struggles financially to provide a warm and loving home, and often does not have enough money at the end of the month for fuel.
The grandson is 14 and needs clothes: shirts, jeans and shoes. He wears 30X32 jeans, size medium to large shirt and size 11 shoes. He loves skateboarding, but doesn’t have one. He likes basketball, Playstation  3 games, hand-held games and sci-fi movies (no Harry Potter, please.) He also likes easy rock music and James Patterson books.
The grandmother needs shirts and slacks and shoes. She wears a large in shirts, size 12 pants and a size 7 ½ shoes. She needs long distance landline phone cards, a purse, shampoo and hairspray and house shoes, size 8. She enjoys reading a good novel.
FAMILY NO. 2: This family includes a mother, a father and three older children. Mom and the 22-year-old son recently lost their jobs. While dad works full-time, the family struggles financially.
The first child, a 16-year-old female, wears a size medium shirt, an 8 to 8 ½ shoe, and a size 7 tall jeans. She wishes for a pair of moccasins, size 8 to 8 1/2, and loves to read. She’s interested in the Hobbit and Star Wars, and wants makeup.
The second child, a 15-year-old boy, wears a size medium in shirts, a size 30X30 jeans (likes black only) and wears a size 11 shoe. He wishes for Xbox 360 games, wood work and loves to whittle. He needs knives replaced so he can continue his whittling hobby.
The third child, the 22-year-old, wears a size medium shirt, size 30X30 jeans and size 11 shoe.
The mom wears a size large shirt, 8 to 8 ½ shoe, and a size 12 in jeans.  The dad needs dress slacks, shirts and shoes for work. He wears a 32X30 jeans, size large shirt, and a size 11 shoe. The parents wish for shampoo, a wallet, a purse, and queen sized bed sheets. The mom loves to read.
