  • Diamond’s defense was lights out in the second quarter and that helped shape the difference in the Lady Wildcats’ 44-27 triumph over the Jasper Lady Eagles in the Spring River Valley Conference opener on Tuesday.
Holding an 8-6 lead after one quarter of play, the Lady Wildcats locked down defensively and didn’t allow the Lady Eagles to score in the period. The 15-0 run by Diamond made it 23-6 at the half, and proved too steep a climb for the Lady Eagles to conquer.
Cady Littlefield pumped in 14 points for the Lady Wildcats while Macie Seward added 11, Heather Wilson nine, Hanna Million and Shayla Jones four and Meghan Dresslaer two.
Larissa Atnip led the Lady Eagles with six points while Adi Etcheson had four, Monica Steeves one, Elizabeth Maneval three, Morgan Winchester four, Karrington Garvin two, Lexie Royster four and Regan Smith two.
Diamond (5-2, 1-0 conference) takes on College Heights at 5 p.m. Friday at College Heights Christian School. That game, which previously scheduled to be played at Ozark Christian College, was moved to College Heights.
Jasper won the junior varsity game, 42-28. Dresslaer led the Lady Wildcats with 10 points in the loss.
