  • Premier Turbines presented a check, food and money to the Newton County Food Basket Brigade on Tuesday at the plant.
“We had an AC coil on a fan house up on top of the roof changed out. It was a copper coil. We took the old coil and in conjunction with Springfield Mechanical, we sold that to a recyclable copper place and got the money for that,” said Ron McNeill, supervisor of machine shop maintenance with the plant. “In turn, we are going to give that back to the food basket brigade.”
    That check was for $750.
McNeill was pleased with the employees helping out with the food basket brigade.
“It is a very important thing in our community,” he said. “People are out there hurting, they need the help and it is just something that us and the employees decided that we needed to do to help those people out.”
There was also a unique way for the employees to get involved with raising money for the worthy cause.
“We had a soup and stew cook off challenge here today,” said Matt White, health safety environmental coordinator with the plant. “Ten competitors and the employee events committee sold bowls to the employees and the employees had two choices on how to participate: they could either bring canned foods or $5.”
They raised $300 along with some canned food.
White was also pleased with the employees helping out.
“It is overwhelming how the employees here at Premier Turbines step up to the plate and give back to the community,” he said.
