Kiara Workman, 9, wanted to help with the Newton County Food Basket Brigade this year.
So at her parent’s business – Workman’s – she placed a plastic bucket with a hole in the top labeled “Food Basket.”
“I asked people if they had spare change that they wanted to put in there,” she said. “We ask people here at Workman’s, car shops and stuff.”
She started collecting just this month.
“I raised $1,164,” she said.
Her father, Tom Workman, said she likes helping and that this was her first year to help with the food basket brigade. In fact, she was at the annual food basket brigade on Saturday helping out during the distribution day.
“You always want your kids to realize that there are families out there that need things and if you are willing to step up and help, that is what makes the world go around,” Tom said.
