A 3-pointer at the buzzer in the third quarter seemed to give the Grove Lady Ridgerunners the lift they needed to hold off the McDonald County girls, 43-34, in a varsity basketball tilt on Saturday at McDonald County High School.
After the Lady Mustangs pulled within 24-21 late in the third, Lady Ridgerunner Libby Morris pulled up for a trey in front of Grove’s bench and found the bottom of the net as time expired. That shot gave the Lady Ridgerunners a little more breathing room (27-21) entering the fourth quarter.
As it was, that shot turned out to be the only one Morris would hit in the game, as she finished with three points. Also scoring for the Lady Ridgerunners were Emilee Iverson with 12 points, Mason Jeffries 10, Taylor Dodson nine, Justina Mouse six and Karah Bassett 3.
Preslea Reece paced the Lady Mustangs with 12 points while Cendy Garcia finished with 11, Sarah Rickman eight and Courtni Smith three.
