A strong second quarter by Marionville helped them escape the East Newton Lady Patriots on Monday, 36-24.
In a first half that was evenly contested throughout, the Lady Patriots held a slim advantage, 8-6, at the end of the first quarter and were tied 12-12 at the half.
While the defense continued its solid play in the second half, Marionville’s offense stepped up and outscored the Lady Patriots 24-12 in the second half.
Haley Heilig rattled in 10 points for East Newton while Shelby Thomlinson chipped in eight, Lindey Broyles four and Kourtney Brewster two. Broyles led the team with 10 rebounds while Heilig finished with six.
Jaycie Dishman turned in a 15-point effort for Marionville.
