  • FAIRVIEW — A Christmas dinner has been set for 12:30 p.m. Christmas Day for Fairview residents who don’t have a place to go.
The dinner will be held at the John Q. Hammons Community Center in Fairview. City Clerk Lorie Heatley and Della Cline are making the traditional dinner, which is free and open to anyone.
“I felt like it was something that needed to be done,” said Heatley. “I have had that on my heart for several years. We have a lot of older people that don’t have family coming in. They just sit there on a holiday. It’s got to be a depressing time. Anybody that doesn’t have any plans already are welcome to come up here.”
Heatley noted it is open to the residents, along with those who live outside of the city limits of Fairview.
Heatley said the menu includes turkey, dressing, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, hot rolls, tea and coffee, dessert and cranberry sauce. She anticipates serving between 50-75 people that day.
She has received some donations of food, including a turkey from L&S Foods of Wheaton.
“If somebody wanted to donate some stuff we would be happy to take it,” she said. “Otherwise, it is just out of our pockets.”
Aside from a good Christmas dinner, there will be holiday music playing in the background. As people leave, they will get something to take home with them.
“We intend on giving everybody a little treat sack before they leave,” she said.
