  • Downstream Casino Resort has opened its second hotel, the 152-room Kappa Tower, which includes the elegant Neé Spa and other new upscale amenities.

  • QUAPAW, Okla. — Downstream Casino Resort has opened its second hotel, the 152-room Kappa Tower, which includes the elegant Neé Spa and other new upscale amenities.
    On Friday, area media were invited to take a personal tour of the hotel, the spa and some of the new items therein. The resort also has added about 100 new permanent jobs.
    "We offer anything from body treatments, facial treatments, basic massage to a high end massage, we have couple treatments," Kathy Vanstavern, hotel services manager at Downstream, said of the spa. "We do manicures, pedicures, nails, we will do updos and things for special events, brides."
    The new hotel and spa opened to the public on Dec. 16. Highlights of the new addition include:
    • Twelve single-room luxury suites;
    • Four dual-room luxury suites;
    • Two 1,500-square-feet hospitality suites, each featuring two oversized bedrooms with king beds, a large dining area and living room, meeting space and bar;
    • Another 134 standard deluxe rooms;
    • The spa with five treatment rooms, salon, saunas, steam rooms and whirlpools;
    • Indoor swimming pool with indoor/outdoor patio and lounge area;
    • Lover's Leap Bar and Lounge in the Kappa Lobby;
    • Also, the Buffalo Grille moved from the casino floor to a new, larger location near the bakery, which includes private and outdoor dining. Meanwhile, the previous location of Buffalo Grille, was redesigned and opened as a new high-limit gaming area for both table games and electronic machines;
    • Ma-Ko-Sha` coffee shop and bakery.
    "We hired a first-rate pastry chef to do all of our bread for all of the restaurants, all of our pies, to keep this at the coffee shop and bakery supplied with pies, pastries, doughnuts, cakes," said Sean Harrison, public relations manager of Downstream Casino Resort. "He used to be a pastry chef for the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C."
    Downstream Chairman John Berrey stated he was pleased with the outcome of the new hotel/spa.
    "It's even more beautiful than I thought it would be," he said in a prepared statement. "We are very excited, and we are hopeful that our guests will love it. We are also excited about how this will help strengthen the local economy with the jobs it has created and with a stronger destination tourist attraction."
    Design and architecture for the Phase II development was provided by JCJ Architecture of Hartford, Conn., and the construction contractor was Manhattan Construction Group of Tulsa, Okla.
