There is still time to file for a seat on the Neosho City Council.

So far, only two candidates have entered the race for the two, three-year terms up for grabs in the April 2 election.
Nora Houdyshell, Neosho City Clerk, said incumbent councilmen Tom Workman and Steve Hart are the only two candidates who have formally filed to run for council.

Filing for the April election opened on Dec. 11 and runs through Tuesday, Jan. 15.

To be eligible to run, prospective candidates must live within the Neosho city limits, be a registered voter and be at least 21 years of age at the time of filing.

Prospective candidates are also required to obtain a minimum of 35 signatures from registered Neosho voters to be certified as a candidate.

Workman, first elected to the council in April 2010, is seeking his second three-year term. Workman served as Neosho's mayor pro tem from April 2010 until April 2012, when council member Steve Hart was elected to that role.

Hart first joined the Neosho City Council in April 2011, when he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of former councilwoman Heather Bowers, who was removed from the council two years into her term.

In April 2012, Hart was elected to a one-year term, left from the unexpired term of former councilman Chris Wright, who was elected in April 2010 but resigned in January 2011 after accepting a job that took him out of town for extended periods of time. Council members at that time appointed David Ruth to fill the seat until the April 2012 election. In that election, Ruth ran for the three-year seat formerly held by Bowers and Hart, while Hart sought the one-year term left on the seat previously filled by Wright and Ruth.

This time, Hart seeks a three-year term.
