The score wasn’t very indicative of how close Wednesday’s game between Hollister and East Newton was at the Southwest Washburn Holiday Classic.
While the Trojans led for most of the contest, the score remained close until the final three minutes. After scoring to pull the game within a point inside of five minutes to go in the game, the Patriots suffered some defensive breakdowns that allowed the Trojans to stretch the lead to six points.
The game remained close, however, until the Patriots were forced to foul late and send the Trojans to the free throw line. There they hit eight-of-10 shots late and pulled away.
Bryce Zimmerman led the way for the Patriots with 17 points while Sam Swartz turned in nine, Deion Clark eight, Zack Deman four, Colby Thomas two and Rocky Liveoak two.
Wenger and David each scored 16 for the Trojans.
The Patriots (1-9) take on Cassville in a continuation of the tournament at 6 p.m. today.
