A huge fourth quarter wasn’t enough for East Newton as Cassville also turned in a big frame to thwart the Patriots 61-53 in the second round of the Southwest Washburn Holiday Classic on Thursday.
The Patriots (1-10) saved their best effort for last as they scored 30 points in the fourth quarter, only to see the Wildcats pitch in 27 of their own to halt the comeback bid.
Bryce Zimmerman led the charge offensively for the Patriots with 24 points while Sam Swartz pitched in 15, Aaron Millett three, Deion Clark two and Colby Thomas nine.
Kirk led the Wildcats with 24 while Lowery finished with 14.
The Patriots continue play at the tournament today with a 4:30 p.m. tilt against Haas Hall Academy (Fayetteville, Ark.).
