Late game heroics helped the Neosho Lady Wildcats erase a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter, which led to a 61-58 overtime victory on the road at Aurora on Thursday.
Falling behind 46-36 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Lady Wildcats stormed back late and narrowed the deficit to 53-50 with 10 seconds remaining. After an inbounds pass to Morgan Rathmann, the Neosho senior managed to get off a shot and buried a 3-pointer with eight ticks left in regulation to tie it at 53.
That sent the game into overtime, where, after Rathmann fouled out with three minutes left, a host of Lady Wildcats would step up to put the game away. Whitney Wise, who came off the bench for Neosho, turned in a pair of key steals and sank three free throws in the extra period. Morgan Rogers, Chelsey Henry and Corea Lowery also contributed on both ends of the floor for the Lady Wildcats as they pulled out the win.
Henry and Rogers teamed up to lead Neosho with 14 points each while Rathmann finished with 13, Lowery 10, Emily Harrell two, Wise three, and Matty Liedtke five.
The Lady Wildcats, who entertain Nixa at 6 p.m. Monday, evened their record to 6-6 overall.
Aurora won the junior varsity game, 42-27. Kylee Belcher paced Neosho with eight points.
